Skeletons in Your Closet?

Most of us have skeletons in our closets. We re-organize them, hide them behind our winter coats and shove them in boxes to keep others from noticing they are there.

Despite all of the efforts to keep those skeletons hidden they eventually start to crawl out of their hiding spaces. It might just be a finger or toe at first but soon enough the whole Mr. Skeleton is dancing at the party along with your friends and family.

What happens when I can’t hide them anymore?

At about this time, it hits you that hiding those skeletons isn’t working anymore, and you don’t know what to do. The effects of abuse and trauma do not always show up at the time the event occurred. The wounds that we carry with us can show up right away or can be like bruises that come to the surface very very slowly.

Or, you may not even know about your skeletons, because they are stored away in your subconscious and what you feel and see on the outside are symptoms of anxiety, fear, depression, broken relationships, chronic pain, sleeplessness and more.

How do I let go?

Once those skeletons have been identified, there are many options for supporting your path to a healthy and joyful you. It starts with learning to take care of you, to put yourself first and to listen closely to what your body and mind are telling you.

You may find that sharing your experiences and allowing someone else to be a part of your story helps. Activities like journaling, letting go rituals, self-esteem building and creating your own unique daily routines can help.

I also have specialized techniques like EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Therapy to support you.

What comes first in the healing process?

Letting go of the pain that you survived is a personal and sacred journey. It is a journey that you don’t have to take alone. Facing or uncovering your skeletons is a courageous feat. It can be uncomfortable at times, but will bring you freedoms you never thought you would have.

Therapy for abuse and trauma allows you to not only take the skeletons out of the closet, but to donate them to the National Archaeological Society of Human Pain and Suffering, where they can be disposed of without any involvement from you. The first step is to reach out...

Open that closet door and let yourself be free!

I am here to help, and you deserve it!
