The initial appointment will provide a chance for us to meet and get to know one another. I will ask lots of questions to better understand what brings you to therapy and what are your ideal outcomes for therapy are. This is also a time for you to ask questions about me and how I work as a therapist.
The therapist you choose to work with should be someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can trust and confide in and someone who is open to feedback, even if it is negative.
The therapy space is a calm and peaceful atmosphere that ensures you have the safety to explore, discover and stretch those wings of yours.
You’re halfway there already!
The therapy process is unique to each person or family. It often depends upon your goals. For instance, let’s say your goal is to lessen the sadness you feel about the loss of a relationship. You may need only 3-4 sessions to get to a place where you are finding that joy again. However, if your goal is to overcome the low self-esteem and pain you feel from past abuse you may need weeks to months of treatment. Your goals will set the pace for therapy
If you want to see results quickly, I recommend 8 consecutive weekly sessions. This will allow us to really get to the heart of your goals in a short amount of time and take steps to help you leap ahead.
Therapy or counseling often leads to self-exploration, which in turn leads to discovering new information about yourself and how you see the world around you. In this discovery process you may find characteristics or qualities that you would like to change.
Sometimes therapy will unearth events or past experiences that you didn’t even realize are affecting you today. The process of learning, changing and discovering who you want to be can be uncomfortable at times. Therapy can guide and help you along your path.
Finding joy in life is not always an easy goal but with the help of a great therapist you are halfway there!
